ACTINIC KERATOSIS

Actinic keratosis is a precancerous scaly spot found on sun-damaged skin. It is considered an early form of cutaneous squamous cell cancer, and may develop into this type of cancer if left untreated for several years. It is seen as “red scaly patches” largely on sun-exposed areas.

Treatment options for AK’s include cryotherapy or “freezing” with liquid nitrogen, application of topical chemotherapy agents such as 5-fluorouracil, photodynamic therapy, as well as additional management options.
